Wouldn't it be great if...

I love it when people begin a sentence with "Wouldn't it be great if..." and just leave it hanging.  It's like a warning signal that an important piece of brilliance is about to be shared.  I'd be lying if I could tell you when he said it, but it was definitely Keyano Theatre's Alan Roberts who first suggested an interPLAY-like event in the winter.

"We could call it....winterPLAY," he suggested.

We started small, with a modest theatrical based event in the first year.  In year two we moved into the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre with a once day collection of family activities.  By the next year, one day became three.  When Claude Giroux and his amazing team from Events Wood Buffalo grabbed winterPLAY, it blossomed into a regional celebration of winter.  The event is now nestled in the caring hands of the RMWB, but the essence of it remains, with great activities for families, performers, hockey enthusiasts, and more.

Festivals, by their very nature, evolve over time.  The winterPLAY Festival is a great example of how a germ of an idea can sprout and grow into something much larger and grander than originally envisioned.  This year's event promises to be almost perfect in terms of weather - not too cold and not too warm.
