A new year

2024 arrived wet and wild. The torrential rain started at about 9:30 pm on New Year's Eve and didn't ease up until 3 am on January 1st. It felt like we were on a different planet. Rain and January should never appear in the same sentence.
Heather's parents were our first overnight guests and provided a wonderful distraction for us, with lots of conversation, several disastrous games of Canasta (for me) and a rousing game of Wizard. Good food, good drink, good company. It was a great way to round out 2023 and welcome 2024. That is not to suggest than any of us made it to midnight. We did not. However, the rain and the orchestra of sounds it made, kept us in a state of half sleep for much of the night.
On New Year's Day we brought Dylan and his partner Riki in from Calgary for a nice brunch celebration. The storm disappeared and left us with a bright and sunny Monday. It's amazing how quickly the weather can change in Alberta. We now have a mini lake on the east side of our house.

It is a flurry of activity at our High River house the last few days. Painters are working on window and door trim, SEED Homes members have installed baseboards, and project manager Darren is diligently crossing things off his list. It is conceivable that all the finishing details might be done by week's end, or at least close to being done.

Our job is to do our best to stay out of the way as best we can.

Today, Darren got our washing machine hooked up and Jill from Rogers got our Internet up and running. We are sitting in our TV room watching our television for the first time since July. I can't tell you how grounding this feels.
