Ideal Protein, Week Six

I can't believe I've been at this thing for six whole weeks.  Something switched in my brain at the end of the summer as I began my Ideal Protein journey and I'm within a hair's breadth of the goal I set for myself at my first appointment at BACK on TRACK with BARB.  I describe the change as a switch, because it really feels like everything reset itself on that day.

It is early in the morning on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, 2011.  There is so much to be thankful for as fall begins its dance with the early days of winter.

I'm grateful for my friend Warren, who really inspired me with the story of his wellness and weight loss adventures.  Honestly, up to that point of hearing about his Ideal Protein program at his cabin at Madge Lake, I had never heard of it.  Going on an eating program was as far from my consciousness as was possible.  That said, so was the idea of going to broadcasting school when Warren suggested it back in 1988.  I followed his lead that time too and it led me to where I am today: happily married in Fort McMurray with an amazing wife, two wonderful sons and a great life.

I'm thankful for the support and encouragement of my family, especially Heather.  She never pushed me into changing my eating ways, instead softly suggested, subtly coaxed, sublimely nudged.  And while she absolutely influenced "the switch", it felt like it was my decision, that I completely owned it. I think that has made the difference.

There is no question that I have benefited and am grateful for having had a clearly laid out program to follow.  Whether I like to admit it or not, I am a creature of habit.  I like my quotidian life, of following a routine, like getting up between 6:05 and 6:17 am, even on weekends.  I like following patterns that may seem pedantic, but give me comfort.  Being able to reference the menu sheet of phase one of this program has helped me trim what looks to be 25 pounds - before my official weigh-in this morning - off my middle age bulge.  Thank you for the guidance, the path, the way, the program.

As we will likely segue from phase one to phase two at today's appointment, I'm almost at that point when I'll go down to Bob Barrett's Men's Apparel and gets sized up for a tuxedo.  With the number of functions I have to attend in my roles at Keyano College and with municipal council, it might be time to take the plunge again and buy one.  The last time I did that I was 24, with a 28" waist and a waifish 145-pounds.  I was a "razor thin mint", as I like to say.  I have no intention or desire to ever be that small again, but I'm way smaller than I was at the height of my portliness back when I began this blog on Boxing Day of 2009, and for that, I offer my thanks to the Universe for blowing me in the right direction.
