Life in the Loft

From 2019 to 2023, we hosted hundreds of families in the Artist's Loft above Birdsong Studio 2.0 on Elma Street in Okotoks. We had glowing reviews and received reports that the energy of the space was incredibly positive. Nothing has changed.

This suite is reminiscent of a bachelor apartment I rented back in the 80s in Saskatoon. It is essentially one big room with a nook for the bed and a nook for the kitchen. For two of us and two dogs it is absolutely perfect.

As I type this I am sitting at a small table, our eating spot and the place where we play multiple games of canasta every day. To my left is the queen size bed, with Heather sleeping happily, kept warm by Coco stretched out next to her legs and Shay in the spot I vacated a few minutes ago.
Straight ahead are four large windows that face the driveway and Elma Street, giving the suite a New York apartment vibe. A small sofa and coffee table sit facing that view.
To my right is the fully equipped kitchen nook, a washer and dryer, and a full bathroom. We have been living out of suitcases for four months, so living in this smaller space is quite easy. Most of our belongings are still stored in a pod tucked away in a warehouse in southeast Calgary.

We will be here for a few more weeks, potentially until the end of the year. Progress is being made on our home under construction in High River, but it is unclear when we will get the green light to move in. Heather reported that the final set of patio doors were installed yesterday and Darcy sent an email to tell us that the electrical inspection was a success. Fortis Alberta will soon come and power up the home. After that happens, work can begin on all the finishing details inside the home.
