One Week

We are seven days away from likely receiving the keys to our new house, the very first from SEED Homes. The forecast for Friday, December 22, 2023 is plus 5 degrees Celsius. To say the Universe has been kind to us with the weather would be an understatement. The uniquely elongated fall followed by a tepid start to winter has been a gift to the construction crew and to us. To think that we might be able to unload our storage pod just a few days from Christmas and have it be well above zero feels like a minor miracle.

Heather placed the order for our IKEA cabinets that will go into our entryway and master bedroom yesterday. They will arrive on Christmas Eve.  Can you guess what we'll be doing over the holidays? It may sound like torture to you, but I literally cannot wait. The thought of being in our own space and putting something together that will help us get settled is the best Christmas gift of all.

I'm not going to lie, this has been a tough journey. We have learned a lot of things along the way. The saying "if we knew then what we know now" holds special meaning for us. But isn't that life in general? Things could have gone exactly as planned and we would have learned diddly squat. Instead, we will emerge from this four and a half month march to home with a wealth of experience and knowledge that we'll be able to share with others, should they choose to want to hear it. Waiting truly makes the heart grow fonder and I have a sense that these trials and tribulations will more deeply connect us to our new home, the land it sits on, and the community of High River.

  1. Congrats on getting near completion Heather and Russ. Sounds very exciting and also another few lessons in life were learned, which is great. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas morning in your new home.
