Christmas Carol Chronicles, Part XIII

The following is an interview with Mark Armstrong, a morning show radio personality on CRUZ-FM playing the role of Fred in Keyano Theatre Company's production of A Christmas Carol.

What inspired you to get involved?

I love the Christmas Carol story. It has always been one of my favourite Christmas traditions. I have seen numerous productions of it and really wanted to be a part of it here in town. I don’t have a lot of live theatre experience and I am really honoured and blessed to get to be on stage with so many talented people from the community.

Has the experienced either changed or deepened your connectivity with the community?

I have only been in Fort McMurray for 10 months and while I have made some friends and been to many events, this has been a great experience for me. I have met a lot of amazing people and felt part of something that the community will really enjoy. I look forward to hopefully being a part of more productions with Keyano if they let me.

What, if anything, has surprised you about the journey so far?

The level of dedication, money and time that is going into this production has been very eye opening. I thought originally it would be a small local production, but I was very naïve. The set, the costumes, the caliber of actors in this play have truly astounded me. I feel out of place and I am really blessed to be a part of it.

Why should people come and see this show?

Not only will you get to enjoy a Christmas classic, but you will be thoroughly entertained. I have laughed and cried while watching the rehearsals and I know exactly what’s going to happen! You are guaranteed for a gambit of emotions and you will leave the theatre with a smile on your face.
